Our only athlete on the track on Saturday was Katie Quigley in the U/14 200m. Katie finished 4th in her heat and was unfortunate not to qualify to her final.
On Sunday our U14 girls relay team were on the track against some tough competition and after qualifying to the final ran an excellent race to finish 5th in a time of 55.41s.

Kathryn Weir competed in the U17 Discus this morning and threw 25.79m to finish in 7th position, which was a great result considering Kathryn has done more work with Junior Cert books than on the athletics track recently.
Look forward to the 23rd and 24th July for the next days of the T&F Championships.

Scottish National Indoor Championships, Glasgow (5th March 2011) It was an early start on Friday Morning as the seven athletes representing County Kildare dragged themselves out of their beds and headed for Dublin airport . Arriving early in Glasgow on the Friday meant the group had time to look around the city centre and take the opportunity to indulge in a little shopping before heading back to the hotel to try and get a few hours sleep in the afternoon. Then it was out to eat, and early to bed in order to get ready for a big day at the Scottish National U17 / U20 Competition. It was another early start on Saturday as the team made its way to the excellent facilities at Kelvin Hall, and the the events kicked off at 09:30. Kathryn was competing at 11:30 for the U17 women's shotput, which was a hard fought competition and it was extremely close at the top for the medal positions. It was an excellent result for Kathryn as she claimed the gold medal with a throw of 9.58m with her final throw of the competition. After a celebratory meal on saturday night it was yet another early start on Sunday morning to head back to Glasgow airport, and fly home for a well deserved rest.
Leinster Indoor Championships, Days 2 & 3, Nenagh (12th & 13th February) It was a busy weekend with 8 of our athletes competing in Nenagh. 3 Leinster medals were won but more importantly for a lot of athletes, personal bests were beaten so even for the athletes who came away without medals they were all smiling.
Aoife Kelly competed in her first Leinster indoors competition in both the U/12 Long Jump and 600m. Aoife finished in 8th place in her long jump with a jump of 3.55m but outside of qualification time from the 600m heats.
In the U/13 competition Lisa Aspel competed in the Long Jump and 60m. Lisa jumped 3.92m in Long Jump but with tough competition was unable to advance from her heat in the 60m.
In the U/14 competition Laura Quigley, Tara Breen, Cliodhna O'Connor and Katie Quigley competed. Tara threw 6.38m in the Shot Putt and jumped xx in the Long Jump. Katie jumped 3.96m in the Long Jump and was unfortunate not to advance out of the 60m heats. Laura threw 8.21m in the Shot Putt and although running a very fast heat in the 800m and qualifying for the final had to pull out with a muscle injury. Cliodhna won the 2nd heat of the 800m in great style and advanced to the final but finished just outside the medals in 5th place.
In the U/15, U/17 and U/19 competition our Shot Putters all won medals. First up was Ciara Dunne who won Gold with a throw of 10.89m. Kathryn Weir won Gold with a throw of 10.85m and Charles Weir won Silver with a throw of 9.66m.
For the first time Kathryn also took part in High Jump and although she was not in contention for a medal did fantastically well to try a new discipline.
Well done to all who competed and Good Luck to our medal winners in the All Ireland Finals next month.
All Ireland B Cross Country Championships, ALSAA (6th February 2011) On a wet and very windy day 2 of our athletes: Cliodhna O'Connor and Alison Keatley headed to ALSAA in Dublin for the final Juvenile Cross Country Championships of this years season. Cliodhna was running in the U/13 race and with a great start and staying in the leading group for the whole race finished 2nd to claim an individual medal and a county medal. Alison ran in the U/17 race and with all the hours of hard training behind her finished in 6th to also pick up an individual medal. Unfortunately there was no County team in this age group.
Leinster Indoor Championships, Day 1, Nenagh (30th January 2011) On Day 1 of the Leinster Indoor Championships which includes the Juvenile Relays the Girls U14 entered in the 4 x 200m. The relay team of Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley, Lisa Aspel, Cliodhna O'Connor and Tara Breen were in the 1st heat of the U/14 competition. Katie got off to a great start keeping up to 1st place KCH when after 200m the race was stopped due to problems with the timing system. As qualification to the finals is purely on time the race was re-run. Once again Katie got a great start and passed to Laura in 2nd place. Laura kept up the pace and staying in 2nd place to KCH passed to Lisa who put in another great 200m to pass to Cliodhna. Cliodhna kept 2nd place and with a fast heat the girls qualified to the final. Unfortunately in the final we were not able to keep up the same pace as the heats and did not claim a medal but put in a fantastic performance to finish 4th in Leinster. Well done.
Our only senior athlete of the day was Thomas Hickey who is just back training after 4 years away from athletics. Thomas competed in the Long Jump and Shot Putt. Welcome back Thomas.
Celtic Games, Cardiff (30th January) Kathryn Weir was competing in Cardiff today, representing her school and Ireland in Shot Putt. In a fantastic achievement Kathryn threw a PB of 9.99m with a 4kg shot to take 3rd place. Congrats from all in Crookstown.
AAI Juvenile Indoor Combined Events, Nenagh (29th January 2011) 4 of our athletes: Tara Breen, Lisa Aspel, Katie Quigley & Laura Quigley travelled to Nenagh to compete in the Juvenile Combined Events. This is a Pentathlon competition where athletes score in 5 events - High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Putt, 60m Hurdles and 800m. This was the first time our club had competed in this competition and although no medals were won the athletes enjoyed their day and came away tired but with a lot of experience gained. There were 22 athletes competing in the Girls U14 competition and we finished as follows: Katie Quigley in 11th Place, Tara Breen 13th, Lisa Aspel 14th and Laura Quigley 17th.

Results 2010
Leinster Cross Country Odd Age Championships, Adamstown (7th November 2010) Well done to our 7 athletes who competed in the Leinster Cross Country Odd Age Championships. No matter what the results today we knew how much training the athletes had put in and how well they had progressed recently. The positions given below are from my counting so will adjust when the official results are released later in the week.
The U/11 girls Aoife Kelly, Adanya Hott and Molly Aspell were in the first race of the day. With 160 girls on the start line it was always going to be tough but the girls ran a great race finishing Aoife 53rd, Molly 54th and Adanya 59th with the County team coming 4th.
Sean Finn was in the boys U/11 race and ran a good, tough race to finish 29th. No County results available at present.
Next up were Cliodhna O'Connor and Laura Quigley in the girls U/13 2500m. Again approx 160 girls were on the start line so a good start was going to be vital. Cliodhna had a great start and was up at the front of the pack after the first 500m. She held her pace and finished in an excellent 10th position to win an individual medal. We are still waiting for County results. Laura did not get a great start and was unable to make up the loss and finished further down the field.
Last to run was Alison Keatley in the U/17 4500m. Alison started well and with excellent running managed to hold her place in the top 12 for the full race and finished in 10th to claim our second individual medal of the day. Again, no County results available at the moment.
Leinster Cross Country Even Age Championships, Mullingar (24th October 2010) On a beautiful sunny Autumn morning 2 Athletes competed for Crookstown Millview Athletic Club in the Leinster Cross County Championships in Belvedere House, Mullingar on Sunday 24th October. Molly Aspell in the Girls U/10 1000m and Lisa Aspel in the Girls U/12 2000m.
Molly was first up in the girls U/10 race and it was her first time at this level and she ran a positive race and finished in a very impressive 15th place.
Lisa ran in the Girls U/12 and finished in 47th place out of over 100 athletes, she was 6th in for Kildare, who unfortunately were placed just out of the medals in fourth place.
Well done to both girls.
Kildare County XC Championships Even Ages, Narraghmore (10th October 2010) The second round of the Cross Country Championships took place across from our track in very warm weather for October. This was the first time this course had been used and it was a great venue. We had seven athletes competing today: Molly Aspell U/10, Lisa Aspel U/12, Aoife Kelly U/12, Laura Quigley U/14, Cliodhna O'Connor U/14, Tony Aspel U/16 and Alison Keatley U/18.
There were a lot of great races but unfortunately only 1 individual medal which went to Alison Keatley who came 2nd in the girls U/18 4000m, who ran a great race and certainly deserved her medal.
Earlier, Molly Aspell was in the first race of the day in the Girls U/10 600m. Molly had a good start in a large field of girls and finished in a well deserved 6th place.
Lisa Aspel & Aoife Kelly were in the Girls U/12 1500m. Aoife was running out of her age at this race so did excellent to complete the course in 22nd place. Lisa had a great race and finished in 8th place.
In the girls U/14 2000m race Cliodhna O'Connor and Laura Quigley lined up for the club. With both girls running out their age they both ran well to finish in 4th & 7th place. Looking forward to watching you run in Leinster.
Tony Aspel ran in the boys U/16 3500m. This was Tony's first race back after a year of knee injuries. After a fantastic start and in the leading pack Tony had to pull up with about 1500m left due to pain in his knee.
Next up Leinster....see you all there.
Kildare County XC Championships Uneven Ages, Eire Og (3rd October 2010) The first round of the Cross Country Championships took place in Eire Og, Caragh with races for U/9 to U/19. We had 7 Crookstown athletes along with Cliodhna & Ciara O'Connor who ran as Independents.
Molly Aspell, Adanya Hott and Aoife Kelly lined up for the girls U/11 1200m and what fantastic results with Aoife finishing 5th, Molly 10th and Adanya 12th. Just seems a shame we couldn't have made up a team!
Sean Finn then competed in the boys U/11 1200m and after a great race where Sean had to constantly fight for position he finished in a strong 3rd place.
Lisa Aspel, Laura Quigley and Cliodhna O'Connor were up next in the girls U/13 1800m. Unfortunately Laura had to pull out of the race after about 1400m but Cliodhna who was up front from the start finished 2nd and Lisa, running up an age, finished 11th.
Alison Keatley, in her first race for Crookstown in a few years competed in the girls U/17 3500m where all her hard training showed through when she was up with the leaders from the start and finished in 2nd. Ciara O'Connor, competing in the girls U/19 3500m also ran a great race and finished 2nd in her age category.
Well done to you all.
Star of the Sea AC Open Cross Country (26th September 2010) On a lovely sunny day we had four athletes competing in Greenanstown. The course is a great test of Cross Country running - well done to Star of the Sea AC for a great venue and a great competition.
Molly Aspell ran in the U/10 girls 500 metres race. She ran a great race just missing out on the medals and finishing in 9th place. Adanya Hott ran in the U/11 girls 1000m. It was a tough race and Adanya did well to finish 12th. Last to run were Laura Quigley and Cliodhna O'Connor in the girls U/13 1500m. Both had a great start and were in the top 3 for most of the race, even after 2 hard hills. In the last 400m Cliodhna sprinted home to a brilliant 1st place, Laura found the last few hundred hard but still finished well in 6th so both went home with medals.
Adamstown Open Cross Country (19th September 2010) Although it was raining when we left Kildare it cleared away as we drove towards the Sunny Southeast. This was the 1st Cross Country Competition of the season and Molly Aspell, Adanya Hott and Laura Quigley competed for the club.
First up in U/10 girls 1000m was Molly Aspell who got a great start and was able to stay with the top group and went on to finish a fantastic 5th. Next to run was Adanya Hott in the U/11 girls 1000m. This was Adanya's first competitive race and she did herself proud by finishing strongly in 5th place. Last to race was Laura Quigley in the U/13 girls 1500m. Laura did very well and with tough competition finished in 7th place.
Well done girls and we look forward to seeing you compete over the rest of the Cross Country Season.
Navan AC Open Sports (19th September 2010)
The last Track and Field event of 2010 for our athletes looked initially like it might be a damp end to the season as the rain threatened to set in for the day at Claremont Stadium, Navan. However, the weather picked up, and by the time the athletes got out onto the track to warm-up the day started to brighten. It wasn't long before the track events got going and the medal count for the six athletes that had made the journey started to rack up as they secured 5 medals in the sprints (1 silver and 4 bronze). The throwing events proved successful as well with 3 gold medals and a bronze in the shotput and ball throw. Two further medals were secured in the long jump (a gold and silver) and a bronze medal for 800m concluded an impressive display from our athletes.
The individual results were as follows:-
Sean Moore (U10) - Bronze for 80m, and Gold for Ball throw; Lisa Aspel (U12) - Bronze for 100m; Kate Quigley (U13) - Bronze for Shot; Aaron Hennessy (U14) - Bronze for 100m and Bronze for 800m; Ciara Dunne (U14) - Silver for 100m, Gold for Shot and Silver for Long Jump; Kathryn Weir (U16) - Bronze for 100m, Gold for Shot and Gold for Long Jump
It was a fantastic day at Navan with the 6 athletes bringing home 12 medals, and the traditional end of season trip to Super Macs on the way home rounded off a great weekend of athletics, and another successful Track and Field season for Crookstown-Millview.
AAI Outdoor B Championships, Tullamore (1st August 2010) Tara Breen, Katie Quigley & Laura Quigley travelled to Tullamore for the last track competition of the summer to compete in the All Ireland B Championships. All 3 girls are U13 and competed in 2 events each. Tara was first up in the Shot Putt competition and with a personal best throw of 6.18m claimed a well deserved bronze medal. Katie was next in the 80m heats where she qualified comfortably in 2nd place.
The Long Jump was next and all 3 girls competed. Laura picked up a bronze medal with a jump of 3.84m while Katie finished in 4th place with a jump of 3.78m. Katie and Laura went immediately back to the track where Katie had a great finish to her season winning a silver medal in the 80m, while Laura had a great run and was just beaten on the finish line to pick up silver. Well done on some really good performances.
AAI Outdoor T&F Championships, Tullamore (24th & 25th July 2010) Kathryn Weir competed in the U/16 Discus competition on Saturday and with a personal best throw of 23.57m came 6th overall. On Sunday 3 athletes from Crookstown made up the U/13 Inter County Relay team. Unfortunately Cliodhna O'Connor had to withdraw through injury but Ellie O'Toole from Newbridge joined Katie, Laura and Tara to make up the team. After good runs from all the girls finished 5th. Well done to you all.
AAI Outdoor T&F Championships, Tullamore (3rd & 4th July 2010) What a spectacular way to start the weekend, the first event of the competition and Ciara Dunne jumped a superb 4.80m to win the girls Under 14 Long Jump. A gold medal in the bag and it was still only 11am on Saturday. It wasn't long until Ciara was back battling for medals in the shotput and another impressive achievement winning the silver medal with a throw of 11.91m.
We returned on Sunday and Ciara was on form again in her third competition of the championships and another medal to add to the collection as she got a silver medal in the discus. Kathryn Weir was next up with her first event of the championships and she kept the medal tally going as she also got an excellent silver medal in the Girls Under 16 shotput throwing the 3.25Kg shot an impressive 10.92m. This truly was a memorable weekend with 2 athletes competing in 4 events and coming home with a gold and three silver medal.
Ciara Dunnes' achievement this weekend was astonishing, anyone who has been around athletics for any length of time will tell you it is an incredible feat to win any All Ireland medal, and to win three in three different individual events is truly awesome.
And its not over yet, Kathryn Weir has to wait another three weeks (24th July) for her chance to contend for a Discus medal, and on the following day (25th July) our Under 13 girls Tara Breen, Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley, and Cliondha O'Connor (currently with Naas) will represent Kildare at the All Ireland relay finals - good luck to all the girls who I'm sure will do us all proud on that last weekend of All Ireland Track and Field competition for 2010.
Kildare League Round 4, Crookstown (27th June 2010) The final round of the league ran off today in great conditions and with a great atmosphere. On the down side, we just don't have the numbers we need to pick up points for the Club in our league but with 3 individual trophies from the 13 athletes who competed over the 4 rounds you should all be very proud.
In the U/8s Tara Finn threw 14.35m in Ball Throw and in her very first race for the club Rachel Keane came 3rd in 150m.
Sean Moore and Molly Aspell competed in the U/10s with Sean jumping 3.58m in the Long Jump, coming 2nd in his 150m and going on to win the highest scoring individual trophy in that age group. Molly came 4th in her U/10 100m and then in one of the best races of the day fought hard all the way and claimed 2nd place in the 150m.
In the U/11s Aoife Kelly, who is improving all the time, put in two great races and came 2nd in her 80m and 3rd in 150m. Sean Finn came 4th in the U/11 60m and 5th in the 150m. Lisa Aspel competed in the U/12 Long Jump and 600m and picked up a 2nd.

AAI U/9-U/11 Pairs Championships, Templemore (26th June 2010) Sean Finn & Eoin Curley had qualified in the Leinster Competition for U/11 Ball Throw and competed today in Templemore. With some great throws the boys combined total of 47.43m meant they came 4th. Well done.
Leinster T&F Championships, Tullamore (19th & 20th June) After 2 long and very hot days our athletes had every right to go home proud of their achievements. On Day 1 we had Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley & Tara Breen U/13, Aaron Hennessy & Ciara Dunne U/14, Kathryn Weir U/16 and Daniel Kearney U/18. In the U/13 Long Jump, with 46 other athletes it was going to be a tough competition. All girls jumped well and although Katie made it through to final 8 no medals were won.
Next up was the U/13 Shot with Personal Bests being set for all the girls of 5.49m for Tara, 7.64m for Katie & 7.08m for Laura. Unfortunately these were not enough to secure Leinster medals. Kathryn Weir was in the next Shot Putt and lead from the start with some fantastic throws and a personal best of 10.70m to secure a gold medal. Ciara Dunne followed this with an impressive throw of 11.99m in the first throw of the U/14 Shot putt to set a new Leinster Outdoor Record and also win gold.
Aaron was first on the track in the U/14 200m race but after fast paced heats was unable to secure a place in the final. Danny ran in his first Leinster Competition in the U/18 100m and although did not make it through to his final ran a very respectable race.
To finish the day Katie, Laura, Tara & Cliondha made up the U/13 Kildare Inter County Relay team and with great baton changing took 3rd place.
Day 2, started with Kathryn Weir in the U/16 Long Jump and with a personal best jump of 4.77m finished just out of qualification in 5th place. Laura Quigley was on the track in the U/13 600m for her heats. In a comfortable run Laura qualified for the finals to be run at the end of the day. Unfortunately, after a poor start in her 600m final she was unable to make up lost ground but finished a respectable 6th. Well done Laura.
In the U/14s Ciara Dunne had another successful day with a 3rd place medal in Long Jump and a Gold in Discus. In the Long Jump, Ciara was placed 2nd going in the final 8 with fantastic jumps coming from all athletes including a personal best from Ciara of 4.77m. In Discus, Ciara was on form and went into the lead with a throw of 25.22m. Well done Ciara.
Kathryn Weir competed in the U/16 Discus and with some good throws threw 23.29m to secure a silver medal, her second of the Championships. Well done Kathryn.
In the U/13 80m sprints there was a large field of athletes. Katie Quigley competed in the first heat and qualified for the semi final. Tara Breen ran in the second heat but was unable to qualify. In the semi-finals Katie ran a great race in 11.77s to qualify for the final. The U/13 final was a great race and Katie got a fantastic start out the blocks but was unable to hold her place and finished a very close 5th. Hard Luck but well done Katie.
Good luck to Ciara in Kathryn in the All Irelands in 2 weeks time.

Leinster Pairs & U/12 T & F Championships, Tullamore, (29th May 2010) The rain stopping at about 9.00am was the first of many things to happen to make the day’s well organised athletics meeting in Tullamore an enjoyable day out. Crookstown had only one pair, Sean Finn and Eoin Curley in the U11 boys and Lisa Aspel in the U12 Girls. The boys U11 pairs 600m were first up with Sean finishing in a very impressive 4th and Eoin 9th in the second heat. Unfortunately the combined result finished outside the medals. St Laurence O'Toole AC Open Sports, Carlow (5th April 2010) The first Open Sports of the season was very busy and very blustery. Not the weather for setting any personal bests but with 15 Athletes competing for the club we came away with 18 medals so well done to all.
Tara Finn was first on the track in the U/8 80m. Tara did well to finish second in her heat but missed out in her final. Also competing in the 80m were Molly Aspell, Sean Moore, Aoife Kelly, Sean Finn, Katie Quigley, Brendan Aspel, Laura Quigley, Tara Breen, Lisa Aspel. With great runs by all: Sean Moore, Sean Finn, Katie, Laura, Molly & Lisa made it to their finals and Sean Moore secured an U/10 silver medal.
Kathryn Weir was next up with 100m in the girls U/16 and with a straight final finished in 3rd place. Then Tony Aspel's U/16 100m was also a straight final and he finished 2nd!!
Meanwhile at the Junior Men's Long Jump Danny Kearney put in a great show but failed to win a medal. This was his first competition for the club so things can only get better. Also in field events Charles Weir went up an age to compete in the Junior mens Shot Putt. Over at the U/16 Long Jump Kathryn Weir won 3rd place with a good jump which was tough under the conditions as all the girls were jumping straight into the wind.
Sean Moore didn't run in the 300m due to an injury but stayed to compete in the U/11 Ball throw. Again straight into the wind, Sean threw 20.70m which was a great throw and with that won a silver medal. In the girls U/11 Ball Throw Molly & Aoife took part but found it hard throwing into the wind.
Back to the Shot Putt with the U/13 girls where Katie, Laura & Tara were competing. Katie came 4th with a Personal Best of 6.78m. Well done girls. Next was the U/13 boys Shot Putt where Brendan Aspel threw a fantastic 6.78m to win a bronze medal.
Back at the track were the 300m, 500m, 600m & 800m races. First up was Laura Quigley in the U/13 300m and with a great run finished 3rd then went on to finish 3rd in the 600m as well. Also up were Sean Finn, Molly Aspell & Aoife Kelly who finished just outside of the medals and Lisa Aspel who came 3rd to win a bronze medal in the U/12 girls 500m event. In U/16 Boys this was Tony Aspel's first middle distance race since his injury and after a hard race came 3rd - welcome back Tony.
Last on the track were the relays and our U/13 team moved up an age to U/14 and after a fast and closely contested race were awarded silver.
In the final field events of the day, Ciara Dunne won the U/14 Long Jump with a jump of 4.04m, Lisa Aspel in the U/12 Long Jump finished 3rd with a jump of 3.09m. You all did really well today......keep up the good work. The County Championships are only a few weeks away.
AAI Indoor Championships, Nenagh (27th & 28th March) It was a fantastic weekend of athletics at Nenagh, the All Ireland finals always have a sense of occasion about them, and four of our athletes made the early morning trip to Tipperary full of excitement, anticipation, and a little bit of nerves (although they might not admit it!).
The weekend started for Crookstown on saturday morning (Day 1) when Charles Weir competed in the Under 18s Shotput, Charles looked small in amongst the competitors but fought hard and managed an excellent 5th position with a throw of 10.19m with the 5Kg shot.
Next up was Lisa Aspel in the Under 12s Long Jump, it was a great experience for Lisa as it was her first All Ireland final, and she finished 13th with a jump of 3.27m.
Day two (Sunday) started well for the club with Kathryn Weir improving a place on last year securing a Silver medal with a throw of 10.43m (3.25Kg shot). The success and excitement continued as Ciara Dunne battled hard in the closest of competitions and also achieved a silver medal (2Kg shot) and was only 14cm off the top spot.
It was great to have four athletes from a small club like Crookstown competing at the highest level in the country, and the superb performance by all of them demonstrates that hard work on the training field leads to great results in competition. Well done to Charles, Lisa, Kathryn, and Ciara.
Kildare League Round 1, Newbridge (20th March) The 1st outdoor event of the year was eagerly anticipated, especially by the younger members of the club, some of who were competing for their 1st time for the club. First up in the Girls U/8 60m was Tara Finn who finished 3rd in her heat and went on to finish 6th in her final. Great going Tara. Lisa Aspel was next in the Girls U/12 60m and did not disappoint with a comfortable win and well earned points for the club.
Meanwhile over at the shot putt, Tara Breen, Laura Quigley & Katie Quigley picked up the top 3 points in the U/13 competition and went on to repeat a top 3 for the club in their 200m race.
Stephen Murphy throwing his first ever shot putt in the boys U/13, threw 6.48m to gain yet more top points for the club. Sean Moore competing in his first ball throw in U/10 boys threw a fantastic 32.20m. We look forward to seeing Sean in action over the rest of the season. Tara Finn also competed in the U/8 ball throw and did really well - unforturnately we didn't get a measurement!
At the long jump Sean Finn jumped 2.94m in the U/11 boys and Molly Aspell jumped 2.29m in the U/10 girls.
Back at the track Ciara Dunne had a good day with 1st place in the U/14 girls 80m and then following up with a 2nd place in the 600m. Definitely time to get those spikes back out of the press!
Molly Aspell finished 4th in her 150m for girls U/10, Sean Moore finished 3rd in his 150m for boys U/10, Lisa Aspel finished 1st in her 200m for girls U/12 and Stephen Murphy finished 5th in the U/13 boys 300m. Well done to you all as you all won points for the club.
Leinster Indoor Champsionships 2010, Nenagh (27th & 28th February) Lisa Aspel was first to compete for the club on Saturday morning in the U12 Long Jump. After making it down to the last 8, Lisa jumped a personal best of 4.01m to win her first individual Leinster medal. Next up was Lisa again running in the U12 600m but due to a stitch in the last lap, did not make it out of her heats.
Katie & Laura Quigley ran in the U13 600m. Laura qualified in 2nd place in her heat with Katie qualifying on her time. The final of the race was last of the day on Saturday. Katie finished 7th in what was a fast race and Laura who lost her stride in the second lap fought back and finished in 4th place.
Aaron Hennessy competed in the U14 Long Jump setting a personal best with a great jump of 4.24m which put him in 5th place overall. Brendan Aspel and Tara Breen both competed in the U13 Shot Putt competition with Tara throwing 5.96m to finish 8th overall.
Kathryn Weir competed in her 1st competitive long jump for a few years and with a jump of 4.26m finished 5th overall.
The first day was a great success with all our athletes giving 100%.
Sunday morning saw the start of day 2 with Brendan Aspel, Katie Quigley, Tara Breen & Laura Quigley competing in U13 Long Jump. No medals were won but they all made some great jumps. Meanwhile, Charles Weir competed in the U18 Shot Putt and with a throw of 11.38m secured our 1st gold medal of the weekend.
Next up on the track were Tony Aspel and John Byrne in the U16 and U17 200m heats. Neither athletes progressed from their heats but both put in tremendous effort.
Back at the Shot Putt Kathryn Weir took Gold in U16 with a personal best throw of 10.35m, Ciara Dunne threw 10.46m to win the U14s and Dean Clifford, in his first Leinster competition, threw 9.25m to come 4th in the Boys U14 competition.
Tony Aspel had an excellent start to a very fast 1st heat of the U16 boys 800m event. Unfortunately on the second lap Tony came off the bend awkwardly and dislocated his knee! Thankfully, with help from the first aiders, nearby hospital and lots of painkillers he made it back on crutches to watch our athletes compete in the 60 metre events.
Lisa Aspel, Brendan Aspel, Tara Breen, Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley, Aaron Hennessy, Kathryn Weir and John Byrne all ran in the 60m event with Lisa, Laura & Kathryn making it through to semi-finals/finals. No medals were won on the track but you did us all proud.
It was a great weekend and we wish Charles, Kathryn, Ciara & Lisa the very best for the up coming All Irelands.

AAI All Ireland Juvenile Cross Country Championships Odd Ages (6th December 2009) 3 of our athletes competed in this event in Coleraine. Sean Finn and Jack Fitzgerald in the under 11 boys and Aaron Hennessy in the U/13 boys. Sean Finn (running up an age) ran a superb race finishing 47th, this was Sean's first experience of an All Ireland cross country and he finished 4th for County Kildare and Kildare finished 3rd team. Jack Fitzgerald, after a bad start, finished 85th. Aaron Hennessy had a fantastic run and looked comfortable all through the very testing course of hills and very wet and slippy ground. However due to organisational errors this race will be run at a later date. See blog page for parents' comments.
AAI All Ireland Juvenile Cross Country Championships Even Ages (22nd November 2009) On a very cold and very wet day in Kilbeggan the All Ireland Championships were run. The first race was the girls U/12 1000m in which Kate & Laura Quigley were competing for both County and Province. Both girls had poor starts in a field of 160 competitors but Kate made good progress through the field to finish 57th. Laura, who had been sick through the week made a great effort and finished 89th.
The next race up was the boys U/12 1000m in which Jack Fitzgerald was competing for Kildare. After a hard race with great effort Jack finished 100th. Unfortunately due to the conditions very few photos were taken.
Dunleer AC Noel McGuill/Sandra Floyd Open XC (15th November 2009) Blue skies made for great weather for this cross country event being held in Darver, Co. Louth. Although taking place in a GAA training pitch their were plenty of variations in the course. Molly Aspell ran first in the U/9 race and after a hard run came 19th. Jack Fitzgerald put in a great race and narrowly missed out on 3rd place when he stumbled in the last 150m, 4th place was a great result. Kate & Laura Quigley were the final competitors for the club and from starting on a slope to some sharp bends the girls finished 5th & 8th. Well done to our small amount of athletes who competed today.
Leinster Cross Country Championships Odd Ages (9th November 2009) Considering the weather leading up to this event the conditions today were wonderful! Sunshine, not particularly cold and not a drop of rain! Conditions underfoot were not too bad, a bit mucky, soft and wet in places but generally very good.
Girls U/11 – Lisa Aspel Lisa ran a great race to finish 36th out of a field of 146 finishers. She finished 4th for county Kildare, improving on her position at the county championships, unfortunately the county team failed to win medals.

Jack had a good race finishing 21st and 5th for county Kildare. There were 119 finishers in the u/11 boy’s race. County Kildare won 1st county so both Sean and Jack went home happy with their Leinster Gold medals! Both boys have qualified to run for county Kildare in the All Irelands to be held in Coleraine on the 6th December.
Boys U/13 – Aaron Hennessey Aaron, in his first Leinsters, very narrowly missed a bronze Leinster medal for his county.
